Piper L4 Grasshopper

ZK-ATU / 43-677

oops

Taken at Hamilton Airport: 11 May, 1997. Looking into the rear of the cockpit - note how the door opens. The bulkhead at the rear is plywood. In some of these aircraft the radio operator faced the rear, with the radio equipment being installed in that area. Note all that plexiglass - this is one of the distinguishing features of the L4, showing its origins as a light observation plane.
The white object in the foreground is actually a piece of paper tucked in the cowling indicating some ignition problems the previous day.
