A-4K Skyhawk

NZ6205

oops

Taken at Ohakea, December 13, 2001. 2 Squadron markings - starboard side on the vertical stabiliser. The Flying Taiaha symbol comes from the Squadron arms and appears on their standard. The Taiaha is a traditional Maori weapon. Often described as a 'spear', it is not a throwing weapon, but is used more in the manner of a fighting staff. The thick end is a flattened striking surface, while the other end is carved as a face, with the sharp piece being a stylised tongue which can be used for stabbing.
