Taken at Whenuapai, March 17, 2001. Colt Mk.12 20mm cannon - port side. The Skyhawk is equipped with two fixed cannons each supplied with 75 rounds. (Nominally the aircraft can carry 100 rounds but the RNZAF use a booster motor to assist the gun feed which reduces the capacity but reduces jamming). The shell ejection slots are on the underside inboard of the main wheel wells. Further slots for the link ejectors are generally fitted with external chutes during weapons use to allow the links to better clear the aircraft underside.
