Neico Lancair

Background

The Lancair is a high performance homebuilt, which is becoming increasingly popular in New Zealand. Four Lancairs currently (as at July 1, 1998) appear on the register. These are ZK-CTL (Lancair IV, c/n L IV 192), ZK-KES (Lancair Super ES, c/n17), ZK-SDQ (Lancair 235, c/n AACA/1060), and ZK-PDQ (Lancair 320, c/n353).

The aircraft illustrated below, ZK-CTL, was the third on the register. The 4-seat retractable which is powered by a 350hp Lycoming TIO-540 was started by Chris Toms in August 1993, and after approximately 7000 hours work, had its first flight in May 1995. The aircraft won the Aviation News- People's choice award at the 1998 Sport Aviation Association fly-in, while Lancair ZK-KES was awarded Grand Champion.
